SEC Makes Award of $17M, Second Largest Whistleblower Award to Date

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced on June 9, 2016 a whistleblower award of over $17 million to a former company employee who provided a detailed tip to the agency in its investigation and enforcement action. This is the second largest whistleblower award issued by the SEC since the implementation of the whistleblower program in 2011.

In a press release from the agency, Chief of the Office of the Whistleblower Sean McKessy said, “In the past month, five whistleblowers have received a total of more than $26 million, and we hope these substantial awards encourage other individuals with knowledge of potential federal securities law violations to make the right choice to come forward and report the wrongdoing to the SEC.”
