Investigation of Potential Claims against Huel and Naked Nutrition for Misleading Advertising
Shapiro Haber & Urmy LLP is investigating whether consumers who have purchased Naked Nutrition Vegan Mass Gainer and/or Huel Black Edition have been exposed to potentially dangerous levels of lead and other heavy metals, including cadmium.
If you are a regular consumer of one or both of these products, you might have claims that these companies violated applicable state laws and federal guidelines by selling products with concerning levels of lead and cadmium, all while advertising their products as “third-party tested” and “independently tested for heavy metals.”
Recent tests performed by Consumer Reports have shown that these products contain more lead in a single serving than the safe daily recommended value (See Protein Powders and Shakes Contain High Levels of Lead). Notably, these two products were found to contain so much lead that CR’s experts caution consumers not to use them at all. “A single serving of these protein powders contain[s] between 1,200 and 1,600 percent of CR’s level of concern for lead, which is 0.5 micrograms per day.”
If you have purchased and used either of these plant-based protein supplements and would be interested in discussing your experiences further, please email shu@shulaw.com, call (617) 439-3939, or click here to contact us through our website.
