SEC Makes Award of $14M, Largest Whistleblower Award to Date

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced on October 1, 2013 an award of over $14 million to be paid to a whistleblower who provided original information leading to a successful SEC enforcement action.  The Order determining Whistleblower Award Claim sets the expected award amount to “exceed $14 million in light of the monetary sanctions already collected,” which will be the largest whistleblower award to date.  The enforcement action, which secured and recovered substantial investor funds, was brought less than 6 months after receiving the whistleblower’s tip.
